Kentucky welcomed its first Wawa store with a grand opening July 24, writes Keith Kaiser for WDRB.
The Louisville store opened at 9650 Preston Crossing Blvd.
Kentucky is the 12th state to get a Wawa.
The Okolona location is the first Wawa in Kentucky, but not the first in the Louisville area. A store opened in May in Clarksville, Indiana.
A ribbon-cutting ceremony included free T-shirts to the first 250 customers and free coffee of any size from July 24 to July 27.
Wally Goose, Wawa’s mascot, was there to greet people and do some dancing.
The Okolona location is the first of eight stores set to open in Kentucky by the end of the year.
Ground was broken for the store in June. Mayor Craig Greenberg, other dignitaries, and Wally the Goose attended the groundbreaking.
Future plans call for Wawa to build and open five to eight stores per year in Kentucky, with the goal of eventually having 40 stores there.
WDRB describes Wawa as being known for its “cheap eats, fresh food and beverage offerings, including coffee, smoothies, hoagies, pizza, burgers, soups and more.”
