Local engineer Shane Cloyd has brought creative new education opportunities to the Coatesville community, writes staff for The Daily Local News.
Cloyd, currently a Principal Engineer at Penske Logistics, operates technology and arts after-school programming in downtown Coatesville.
Out of a previously unused 8,000 square foot building, he manages Our Dot Art and STEAM/POWER. Both organizations offer accessible youth technology education and community art projects.
The STEAM/POWER Program offers an eSports room that hosts structured lessons on computer programming, robotics, and 3D design and printing. The space also hosts video game tournaments, drop-in gaming hours, and a pop-up LEGO store run by local business owners.
The organization has plans to host birthday parties in the near future in partnership with Kid Party Pros.
With Our Dot Art, over one hundred community members all contributed to a shared art project.
At a free event, visitors were tasked with completing a small square of dot art. All of the squares were later assembled to create a unique mural that will be displayed at the Coatesville Library.
Since the beginning, Cloyd has aimed to make both Our Dot Art and STEAM/POWER as accessible as possible to children of all backgrounds and abilities. On top of both programs, Cloyd is currently running for Township Supervisor in East Fallowfield Township to continue his career of community service and engagement.
