Tejas Agarwal, founder of the Philadelphia startup Sahay AI, was moved by two deadly train crashes in 2023 to develop technology aimed at preventing future rail disasters, writes Sarah Huffman for Technical.ly.
After developing the rail infrastructure technology, Agarwal was unsure how to transform it into a viable startup. As an immigrant to the United States, he faced unique hurdles in launching his own company. Nevertheless, he moved forward and founded Sahay AI in 2023. The robotics company uses an AI-driven system to inspect railroad infrastructure for potential safety issues.
As he worked to grow the company, Agarwal received an application for Unshackled Ventures from his adviser. The venture capital firm, which focuses on supporting immigrant entrepreneurs, granted him $150,000 in funding. That investment allowed him to pursue Sahay AI full-time.
However over time, he has come to realize that when you start your own company, you never stop learning.
“One thing I’ve felt is that the more I learn, the more I know about my own sector, the better I am in conversations and the better knowledge I can give to my teammates to grow the company better,” he said.
