Luke Putter of Newtown Square got to show his support for the Philadelphia Eagles while competing July 6 at the Henley Royal Regatta in England, writes Chris Mc Pherson for the Philadelphia Eagles.
He was part of a four-man team, the Thames Rowing Club, that captured the Britannia Challenge Cup.
Putter decided to bring some Eagles fandom to London and donned an Eagles hat during the competition.
His father, Andrew, is an Eagles season ticket holder and tailgate host.
While training with his British teammates for the Henley Royal Regatta, Putter educated them on being an Eagles fan.
By the time the Eagles played the Super Bowl, “Go Birds!” was a frequent cry around London.
Putter wore his Midnight Green Eagles hat when he rowed with the Thames Club this spring and again on July 6, when his four-man boat went up against the London Rowing Club at the most prestigious rowing competition in the world.
“It was absolutely insane,” he said. “Rowing up to the start line for the final on Sunday was surreal because there were thousands of people on the bank, just 20 yards away. They’re all staring at you, making sure you’re doing everything perfectly.”
