Gullifty’s restaurant, serving the Bryn Mawr community since 1975, is celebrating its 50th anniversary.
There will be three special events to mark the occasion as the restaurant, located in the Rosemont Square Shopping Center, debuts a new look, a new menu, and an upstairs lounge with specialty cocktails and a record player for nostalgic guests to enjoy their favorite albums, according to Gullifty’s owner, Jason Johnson.
Gullifty’s invites the community to join in the upcoming celebrations:
• On Thursday, July 17, the restaurant will donate a portion of its sales to support local community member Jon Hollin, a 42-year-old cystic fibrosis survivor recovering from a massive heart attack. Jon has been a loyal customer for many years.
• On Friday, July 18, the restaurant will feature a special edition of Gullifty’s “Quizzo” trivia night with questions that span the decades, starting from 1975 through today.
• On Saturday, July 19, the 50th Anniversary Celebration will kick off at 2 PM outside in Gullifty’s Garden with a beer-tasting event showcasing Cape May Brewing, Dewey, Von Trapp, Brew Dog, and Levante, along with pairings from the new menu and live music from Jimmy and the Giants.
Festivities will continue from 6-9 PM with live music featuring Matt Santry, a Gullifty’s anniversary cake, prizes for the best stories submitted, and the introduction of Gullifty’s Hall of Fame.
Celebrations will extend into the night with karaoke, drink specials from 1975, and a best-dressed 70s contest from 9 PM until 12 AM.
“We are celebrating 50 years of great food, good times, and a great community,” said Jason. “Gullifty’s has enjoyed a half-century of success because of its commitment to freshness and quality and because of its loyal customers. We look forward to serving our local families and our community for another 50.”
The restaurant, named after a phrase used on Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood, was opened by Jason’s father, Gene, and mother, Betty Jane (B.J.), and has been owned and operated by the family ever since.
With a menu that offers “something for everyone,” patrons come to savor homemade food made from scratch, including soups, sauces, salad dressings, desserts, and ice cream, served with craft beers from around the world on tap.
Food is locally sourced whenever possible, and Jason logs over 8,000 miles a year by car to procure them, even picking up the cream from a local dairy in Barto, PA, for the homemade ice cream.
Jason credits the restaurant’s long-standing Main Line tradition to the hard-working, loyal staff, inspired by Gullifty’s bakery lead and others who have retired after years of dedicated service, but who have helped shape the business for more than 40 years.
It has employed more than 10,000 people over the decades. There are currently 40 team members and a kitchen staff that offers 150 years of combined experience.
Fun facts from the last 50 years:
– The restaurant has served over 8 million people since its inception.
– The Baker has made over 10,000 chocolate mousse pies (a fan favorite) since 1982.
– The restaurant has served over 10,000 tons of food.
