These 3 Delaware County Country Clubs Lead the Way in Assets

The Llanerch Country Club in Havertown was one of three Delaware County country clubs on a list identifying country clubs in the region with the most assets.

The Merion Golf Club in Ardmore tops the regional list of country clubs with the most assets, writes Andy Medii and Emma Dooling for Philadelphia Business Journal.

Country club revenue has soared following the pandemic, along with dues and membership costs. Delaware County country club assets have also been trending upward for local clubs.

Merion ranked as the region’s largest nonprofit country club by assets in 2022, with more than $47.6 million in assets that year.

For 2023, the Ardmore club grew its assets by another 7.6 percent to $51.24 million.

It has hosted five U.S. Opens and is set to host several national golf championships in the coming decades.

Also ranking in the top for assets was the Llanerch Country Club in Havertown, which had $17.34 million in assets in 2022, down 1 percent from 2021.

St. Davids Golf Club in Wayne had $14.41 million in assets, up 4 percent from 2021.

More high-value assets demonstrate that a club charging high joining fees and dues is re-investing those membership costs.

“That there is a high-value asset means you are getting back what you are putting in in return,” said real estate specialist Kevin Kenny.
