Thunderbird II of Springfield Goes Beyond Just Pizza and Cheesesteaks

Thunderbird II in Springfield has pizza and cheesesteaks but is also known for their wings and salads.

A Springfield institution continues to feed hungry families, a pizza and steak shop known especially for its salads and wings, reports Bob Kelly for Kelly Drives at Fox 29 News.

Thunderbird II has been owned by Steven Landers since 2004.

Years ago, the previous owner, Mike, offered him a job while he was waiting to order a cheesesteak.

“And I just really loved making food and interacting with customers,” Landers said. “Nine years later, he gave me the opportunity to buy the business.”

Landers is a Springfield native, a student of St. Francis and Springfield High, “so I know a lot of people in town.”

Thunderbird II became known for its wings back in the 1990s, when only they and Domino’s Pizza had them on the menu.

There’s the popular Landers pizza, created at their Sea Isle City shop back in 2015, with mozzarella cheese on the bottom and a homemade sauce on top.

A new trendy pizza, a hot honey-cupped pepperoni pizza, “tastes incredible,” Landers said.

Most popular is the Speedy Gonzalez salad —crispy chicken, tortilla strips, grated cheese, black beans, tomatoes, and lettuce, served with a pineapple mango vinaigrette dressing.
