There are times when it’s good to seek out a third place with friends, writes Sandy Smith for Philadelphia Magazine.
A third place, as described in the book “The Great Good Place” by Ray Oldenburg, is not work or home but another place where you can gather and socialize.
Those places could be cafes, coffee shops, bookstores, and hair salons.
A lot of times, they’re bars, pubs, or breweries.
So, if you need some help finding a decent third place in Delaware County, you might want to saunter over to Media Borough.
There’s a robust bar and restaurant scene at the county seat.
Some have great beer and pizza, like Pinocchio’s Restaurant & Beer Garden.
Others, like Brick & Brew and Sterling Pig, bring cocktails to the table.
Another Media Borough favorite is the Iron Hill Brewery.
Sligo Pub offers Irish and American food in an authentic Irish atmosphere where Guinness is on tap all the time.
Two Fourteen serves inventive cocktails and fresh, locally sourced cuisine that varies with the season. Come during tomato season and order an “Heir of the Dog” cocktail and gazpacho.
See what other special third places are available in the Philadelphia region in Philadelphia Magazine.
