Anne Churchman, Former Radnor School District Manager, Remembered

Anne Church, active in the community, church and schools, is being remembered.

Anne Churchman, retired office manager for the Radnor Township School District and a teacher’s aide at Main Line Child Care Center, died May 29 at Dunwoody Village in Newtown Square. She was 100.

Mrs. Churchman, who traced her ancestors back to the Mayflower, earned an English degree from Villanova University at age 50 and was a leader at Christ Church Ithan, writes Gary Miles for The Philadelphia Inquirer.

Her church work included serving as an Episcopal lay minister.

Anne Meyers, a lifelong learner, dropped out of Smith College in 1944 to marry Bill Churchman in 1945. They raised three daughters and a son.

She returned to college 30 years later, in 1974, earning a bachelor’s degree in English from Villanova University. She spent the next 20 years supervising workplaces and teaching students at Bryn Mawr and Rosemont Elementary Schools, as well as Harriton High School.

Mrs. Churchman is described as a “people person,” a painter, and an enthusiastic reader.

“She was a nurturer,” her daughter Paige said. “She loved to learn.”

Her volunteer work included supervising four local charity fundraising drives. She served on the board of the League of Women Voters, the Radnor Memorial Library, and the Wayne Art Center.
