Uber Launching Cheaper Commuting Options for Riders in Philadelphia, 6 Other U.S. Cities

Uber has unveiled a new Route Share option for riders looking to save some money during peak commute hours of the day.

Uber recently announced its plans to launch a new car-pool like option for riders looking to save money in Philadelphia and 6 other major U.S. cities, writes Nayeli Jaramillo-Plata for CNN.

The new option, called Route Share, will work like a commuter shuttle with consistent and frequent pickup options along direct routes. During peak commute hours of 6 AM to 10 AM and 4 PM to 8 PM on weekdays, it will run ever 20 minutes.

Uber said that commuters will walk a short distance to designated pickup and drop-off points and provides the option to share rides with up to two additional passengers.

According to Uber, this new option will help save commuters up to 50 percent in comparison to the private-ride UberX service.

That’s not all the company is doing to help reduce costs for riders.

Uber is also unveiling two new ride passes. For $2.99 a month, the Price Lock Pass allows riders to lock in a price in advance for up to 10 routes. Meanwhile, the Prepaid Pass, set to launch this summer, will offer discounts on bundles of five, 10, 15, or 20 rides in advance.
