Phila. area Uber riders aren't well regarded, according to a national survey.

Local Uber riders can be a handful, says a new report released by the ride-sharing company. It cites a national survey of Uber etiquette — or its absence — showing that Philadelphia passengers are among the worst. Mike D’Onofrio and Taylor Allen picked up on the City-of-Not-So-Much-Brotherly-Love behavior for Axios.

The data are unclear if drivers consider Philadelphia riders to be rude or bad tippers; however, having the seventh-worst ratings in the U.S. indicates the depth of the issue.

Placing even worse below Philadelphia was Los Angeles at the 8th spot; Baltimore, at the 9th spot; and Chicago coming in last, at 10th.

There are several simple things users can do to improve their Uber ratings:

  • Be ready at the pickup location
  • Text the driver if the meet-time will be delayed
  • Tamp down the behavior if the ride is the conclusion to a celebratory night of alcohol. This translates to:
    • Keep the mess to a minimum
    • No yelling (cat-calling) out open windows
    • Keep music at reasonable levels
    • No packing the car with more riders than the request allows

Also, since the Uber app does not allow for tipping and drivers usually depend heavily on gratuities, make sure to take care of your driver appropriately.
