A new music venue, The Mill at Rockdale in Aston, and a creator space, the Mill Works Creator Space, will add to an art community that’s been growing for 25 years in the borough, writes Max Bennett for Patch.
Jared Loss and Mike Gaydos are behind the effort to bring the venues to Aston’s Rockdale Arts District.
The Mill at Rockdale, at 3100 Mount Road, Is set to open in June and will host local and regional acts. It will include a microbrewery using the talents of the Band of Media Brewers.
The two bought the space four years ago as they planned their music venue.
Nearby, at 2460 Mount Road, the Mill Works Creator Space will feature a wood shop, metal shop, ceramic studio, sewing area, photo and video studio, and equipment for graphic design.
“We are trying to make it a place to come in and do creative work,” Loss said. “All the tools are set up for you.”
The space, located in an old church, is owned by artist Jay Walker, but Loss and Gaydos are planning to buy the church and create a place where artists can collaborate and work.
