Governor Josh Shapiro attended the 46th Annual Broad Street Run to cheer on his wife Lori and daughter Sophia, write Brandon Goldner and Raxton Reese for CBS News.
The Shapiro women took on the 10-mile race, which began near Jefferson Einstein Medical Center and ended at the Navy Yard. “After we got elected governor, Lori said, ‘Man, I want to do something different. I want to try something new,’ and she got into running,” said the Abington native, proudly watching them cross the finish line.
Lori and Sophia credited the support and hydration stations along the course for helping them power through. “We’re feeling great! It was fun—really fun!” Lori said at the finish.
This year’s race saw a slight change, with an earlier 7 AM start time, but that didn’t slow anyone down. “It’s one of those races that everyone loves,” said Parks and Recreation Commissioner Susan Slawson. “We love the fact that people come here to celebrate not just the running, but also Philadelphia.”
