Haverford Area Y Opens State-of-the-Art Gymnastics Facility

The Haverford Area YMCA has opened a 11,000 square feet facility state of the art gymnastics center.

The Haverford Area YMCA has opened a $1 million state-of-the-art 11,000 square-foot gymnastics center at 4 Raymond Drive, writes Pete Bannan for the Daily Times.

The facility, which occupies two warehouses, will accommodate more than 700 young athletes, including 50 members of the Haverford Gymnastics team.

It also has a dance space, a mezzanine, and plenty of parking.

The new center is particularly welcomed by the team.

It has had less than ideal options in the past 10 years, said Katie Koch, executive director of the Haverford Y.

The team used an offsite location, breaking down equipment each night, or it shared half of the Y’s gym on Eagle Road with basketball players and the 24,000 Y members.

Gymnasts couldn’t perform full floor routines or run a full vault because there wasn’t room.

“Along with our membership booming, our gymnastics is booming,” Koch said. “The demand between the members and the team required an additional practice and performance space.

The new facility has a foam pit, a full-size competition floor, a tumbling track, and several vaults, bars, and beams.

There are also four large-screen video monitors for instant feedback on routines.
