Wawa kicked off construction on its first West Virginia location in the Inwood community earlier this week with a groundbreaking ceremony, writes Fox Business for the New York Post.
The new store will represent Wawa’s first foray into the Mountain State. It is expected that the location will open its doors to customers in the first quarter of next year.
“Wawa is expanding to West Virginia, and we are thrilled to continue growing in new markets to provide the community with our one-of-a-kind offer and commitment to supporting the community,” said Wawa Vice President of Real Estate John Poplawski.
There are currently more than 1,060 Wawa stores in eight states along with Washington, D.C.
Wawa “look[s] forward to our first grand openings in early 2025 when we can begin serving this wonderful community” in West Virginia, said Poplawski.
As part of its initial plans for the state, the convenience store chain plans to build between three and five new stores in West Virginia over as many years.
Wawa is also looking at potentially opening new stores in Ohio, Kentucky, Indiana, Georgia, and Tennessee.
