Chester Mayor Stefan Roots Explores City Partnerships on Taiwan Trip

Chester Mayor Stefan Roots had a unique opportunity to travel to Taiwan and seek out partnerships that could help Chester City.

The mayor reported on his experience April 21 in his blog, “Chester Matters.”

Mayor Roots visited Taiwan in early April, traveling with a Delaware County delegation to Pintung County, Taiwan, to attend the 2025 Sustainable City Governance Forum & Sister County Signing Ceremony.

The event established an official partnership between Pintung County, Taiwan, and Delaware County, focusing on sustainability and integrating climate change considerations into policy discussions.

During Mayor Roots’ trip, there were discussions on linking Chester and Pennsylvania to Taiwan’s semiconductor industry through a Global Schools network that exposes students to organizations in electronics manufacturing and semiconductor suppliers.

While there, Mayor Roots also had a chance to meet with dignitaries in Taipei and visit a school in Taoyuan County, forging partnership opportunities between Chester and Taiwan.

Other discussions explored potential research partnerships or knowledge exchanges on air quality, waste management, health equity, and the public health impacts of pollution.

There was also talk of encouraging large corporations and industries to bring projects to Chester City.
