The World Atlas has named Doylestown Borough as one of Pennsylvania’s most unconventional towns thanks to its “historical and quirky attractions,” writes Jeff Werner for the Patch.
The list is aimed at people who are not visiting Pennsylvania to explore its deep well of historical sites, which are plentiful in cities such as Philadelphia, but instead are seeking the state’s “most eccentric attractions and oddities … the goal is to find towns that have embraced alternative lifestyles, peculiar points of interest and atypical traditions that set them apart.”
The World Atlas has recognized Doylestown for its gorgeous architecture and the blend of historical and unusual attractions that all combine to make it worth exploring.
The publication highlighted “The Mercer Mile,” which includes a trio of concrete structures that were constructed by Henry Chapman Mercer.
“The TileWorks, Mercer Museum, and Fonthill Castle showcase a mix of architectural designs decorating the downtown skyline,” it wrote.
The World Atlas also mentioned Doylestown’s VAMPA Vampire and Paranormal Museum with “a vast stockpile of vampire-related artifacts, from killing sets to occult paraphernalia and paranormal items, which spooks many first-timers.”
