Delaware County Among 5 Pennsylvania Counties With the Most Distracted Driving Offenders

Delaware County was among the top five counties in Pennsylvania with the highest distracted driving offenses between 2020 and 2024.

Delaware County is among the five top counties in Pennsylvania that have the most distracted driver offenders, writes David Mowery for the Reading Eagle, as printed in the Daily Times.

In fact, four counties in southeastern Pennsylvania had the top 10 highest percentage of drivers who were cited for distracted driving between 2020 and 2024, according to state officials.

Delaware County came in fifth in the state, with 522 offenders, or 5.07 percent.

Above them was Berks County, with 536 offenders, at 5.21 percent; Chester County, with 569 offenders, at 5.53 percent; Montgomery County, with 839 offenders, at 8.15 percent; and Allegheny County, with 897 offenders, at 8.72 percent.

The data covers the total number of distracted driving cases in the state during the five-year period, released by the Administrative Office of Pennsylvania Courts.

Statewide, there were 10291 distracted driving offenses committed between 2020 and 2024.

The most common offenders are people in their 20s. The most violations peak between 10 AM and Noon, with most offenses between May and August.                    

Distracted driving in Pennsylvania means:

• Using headphones while driving.

• Using a handheld mobile phone while driving a commercial vehicle.

• Texting while driving.
