While $6 million in emergency funding has been allocated to keep the lights on for another week at Crozer Health’s two remaining hospitals, service cuts and transitions are being implemented as negotiations continue on finding a new Crozer Health owner.
Receiver FTI Consulting has a restructuring transition plan to keep the hospitals stable while those talks continue.
Taylor Hospital in Ridley Park is losing its home care and hospice units as early as June 10, along with 25 employees, according to a spokesperson for the Pennsylvania Association of Staff Nurses and Allied Professionals, writes Kenny Cooper for WHYY.
“The patient lives at stake and the caregiver jobs lost all lie at Prospect’s feet,” the association said in a statement.
Main Line Health is working on a plan to take over OB/GYN services now at Crozer-Chester Medical Center in Upland, writes Harold Brubaker for The Philadelphia Inquirer.
The University of Pennsylvania Health System is taking over the Crozer Health medical office leases in Broomall and Glen Mills after providing $5 million of the $6 million that’s keeping the health system open this week.
Maternity care, including labor and delivery services provided at Crozer-Chester, will be transitioned to an unnamed provider.
Delaware County chipped in $1 million to maintain behavioral health services.
The Daily Times is also reporting that the Crozer ambulance service for Upper Darby was restricted for 36 hours starting Sunday at 7 PM, with only one paramedic to cover 85,000 residents.
Normal Crozer staffing for Upper Darby is two ambulances and a paramedic aid car.
Township police and fire units will continue to respond to medical emergencies and ambulance units from nearby communities will transport patients.
Private ambulance company STAT Medical Services also announced it is providing two 24-hour ALS Transport Units to Upper Darby with an intent to start services there.
