$6M Released to Keep Crozer Health Hospitals on Life Support

Crozer Health has received an infusion of $6 million to keep hospital operations going for another week.

Another $6 million has been added to keep Crozer Health operations going in Delaware County open while negotiations continue on a deal to bring a new owner on board, writes Kenny Cooper for WHYY.

This time the money is coming from Delaware County and Penn Medicine.  Delaware County’s $1 million will go to mental health services. Penn Medicine donated $5 million for hospital operations in exchange for some of Crozer’s medical offices.

The $6 million is less than the $9 million Crozer Health owner, Prospect Medical Holdings said it needed to maintain payroll.

It gives a week’s worth of breathing room for an unnamed group of potential buyers to work out a deal, but it will mean medical service changes at Crozer-Chester Medical Center and Taylor Hospital.

The additional funding pleased U.S. bankruptcy Judge Stacey G.C. Jernigan, who is overseeing bankruptcy proceedings for Prospect.

“We’re all keeping hope alive that we do get an asset purchase agreement during these days ahead but we at least have a game plan,” Jernigan said.

Melissa Van Eck, of the Pennsylvania Office of Attorney General, said that “employees may be wearing different jerseys—but they’ll continue doing their job.”
