Springfield Hosts St. Patrick’s Day Parade for the 105th Time

Springfield celebrates Saint Patrick’s Day with its annual parade for the 105th year.

On March 15, Springfield hosted its annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade, a timeless tradition that dates back 105 years, writes Connor Barkon for KYW Newsradio.

Onlookers watched the parade from their front lawns and gathered on the sidewalks of Saxer Avenue. Even cloudy weather and brisk winds couldn’t deter locals who eagerly await the parade every year.

Featuring festive music, floats, and performances by dance companies, the celebration is a Delaware County staple. Members of the community march with local organizations, handing out candy and treats to kids as they walk.

Over a thousand people were in attendance with their families and friends to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day.

Along the parade route, students from Saint Francis of Assisi set up a snack bar to fundraise for the school.

On October 7, 2024, a fire broke out after school hours, destroying one of the buildings and forcing some students to be temporarily relocated to Saint Kevin Parish, writes Justin Udo for KYW Newsradio.

“And all that money will help with their eighth-grade fundraising costs, but also we’ll be giving a lot to the parish to help rebuild,” said Erin Caramanico, one of the school’s representatives.
