The Shroud of Turin holds deep significance to believers as the shroud that Christ was buried in before rising on Easter Sunday.
Now a rare replica of the Shroud is on display at the Holy Myrrh-bearers Ukrainian Catholic Church in Swarthmore for the faithful to visit.
“It helps us to be able to believe in Jesus as a real man suffering a real death and then rising from the dead,” said Father Dan Troyan, who heads the Swarthmore church.
The actual Shroud is housed in Turin, Italy, but the Pope has released a few replicas that travel to different Catholic churches around the world.
It’s visit here is especially relevant during this time of Lent as a way to help people keep their faith real, he said.
The replica shroud came to Holy Myrrh-bearers Church through its former archbishop, Steven Soroka, and it’s gone to Roman and Ukrainian churches all over the Eastern Seaboard., and as far as Chicago.
Visitors can see the shroud every day from 10 AM to 6 PM, with special presentations given at 11 AM, 3 PM and 5 PM.
