After 41 years at the former Jennersville Hospital campus, Medic 94 has fully settled into its new home along Baltimore Pike in Penn Township, writes Chris Barber for the Chester County Press

The medical emergency room on wheels officially relocated to its new space on Nov. 18 and has since expanded to include a new blood program, making it the only mobile unit in the region to offer one.

Managed by Director of Operations Matt Collins, the blood program gives patients with serious bleeding situations a significantly higher chance of survival than those who cannot receive a transfusion immediately.

“For every minute of delay when a patient is losing and in need of blood, there is a 2 percent increase in the chances that the patient will die within 30 days,” said Collins.

To establish the program, Collins first ensured that all staff completed training on identifying the need for blood and then working out how to apply it appropriately. He then focused on obtaining and storing blood and outfitting Medic 94 with blood transport vehicles to ensure it is ready to respond when called.
