Every time you turn on your tap, you want to know the drinking water flowing into your home is safe and will be there when you need it. At Aqua Pennsylvania, we take our responsibility to deliver clean, dependable drinking water to your home and community seriously.
Since 1886, when we were first known as the Springfield Water Company in Delaware County, our mission has been to provide and protect Earth’s most essential resource in the communities where we live and work. Today, we serve 1.5 million people across Pennsylvania. In 2024, we continued to work hard to protect public health, delivering high-quality drinking water to your family while making improvements that strengthen communities across the Commonwealth.
Investing in Safer Drinking Water for Your Home
Clean drinking water is vital to your health, which is why we’ve proactively addressed potential risks and emerging contaminants like lead and PFAS. In 2024, we launched our lead service line replacement program and have already made incredible progress. We partnered with our customers to replace more than 1,000 lead and galvanized service lines in customers’ homes and businesses — at no direct cost to them.
Our team of engineers and operations experts continued to deliver safe and reliable service while making continuous improvements across the Commonwealth. We constructed and placed into service new PFAS treatment facilities at our Perkiomen Woods and Hatboro well stations in Montgomery County and Chalfont well station in Bucks County. These multi-million-dollar projects help us meet new federal and state regulations while protecting the well-being of your family, neighbors, businesses, and the communities we serve.
Strengthening Our Communities Through Infrastructure Upgrades
Drinking water quality isn’t just about what comes out of the tap; it’s about maintaining the entire complex system that delivers drinking water to you. Our system includes more than 5,000 miles of pipe, 25,000 fire hydrants, eleven water treatment plants, hundreds of wells, and much more. That’s why we replaced 57 miles of old water mains in 2024, ensuring fewer service disruptions and better water pressure. We also installed 483 new fire hydrants, giving first responders improved access to water in emergencies. Our ongoing upgrades translate to a more reliable drinking water supply for every customer, reducing the chances of leaks and costly repairs in the future.
Balancing Investments with Customer Affordability
Utility ownership requires extensive maintenance and timely replacement of assets that deliver life-sustaining services to the communities they serve. Water and wastewater assets are subject to severe operating conditions whether it be due to environmental conditions of extreme temperatures or the corrosive operating environment we experience in wastewater treatment facilities. Lack of maintenance or timely replacement may be considered negligence by the owners of their duty to maintain operations and to serve. In 2024, we invested $338 million in infrastructure to support safe and reliable service — an investment necessary for the long-term health of our communities. To keep costs manageable for our customers, we secured nearly $100 million in Pennvest low-interest loans and grants which in today’s high-interest rate environment helps fund essential infrastructure improvements while reducing the impact on our customer’s monthly bill. Additionally, our Customer Assistance Program (CAP) is expanding to continue to provide discounted water and wastewater bills to families who need financial support, ensuring that everyone in our communities has access to this essential resource.
A Commitment That Continues in 2025
As we look ahead to 2025, our commitment to you remains strong. We will continue working with our customers to replace lead service lines, upgrade infrastructure, and expand our customer assistance programs to provide support. We want you to feel confident that when you turn on your faucet, the water you depend on is safe, clean, and will always be there.
