Local Author’s New Book Chronicles the Dramatic Two-Week Manhunt for Escaped Killer

Gov. Josh Shaprio gives a conference about the capture of Danelo Cavalcante.

A new book by local author and historian Bruce Mowday chronicles the dramatic two-week manhunt and the ultimate capture of convicted murderer Danilo Cavalcante, writes Richard L. Gaw for the Chester County Press

A Killer at the Door: The Dramatic Prison Break and Manhunt for Convicted Murderer Danilo Cavalcante was released earlier this week by Schiffer Publishing

Like many Chester County residents, Mowday experienced the chaos firsthand during the escape and ensuing manhuntthat occured in late August and early September 2023. Months after the ordeal, people still wanted to know more, and several friends encouraged him to write the book.

“They then directed me immediately to the people who live near the prison and how the story was changing their lives,” said the author. “Their accounts form a good part of the book.”

To gather as much information as possible, Mowday has conducted numerous interviews over a year.

“The two representatives I spoke with from the Marshall’s Office,” he said. “One was in the command post and the other was underneath the briar trying to find Cavalcante. They both provided excellent information.”
