Governor Josh Shapiro visited the SPS Technologies facility in Abington on Saturday to assess the aftermath of a massive fire that broke out last Monday, writes Rachel Ravina for The Reporter.
SPS Technologies, a leading aerospace component manufacturer, suffered extensive damage, though no injuries were reported.
During his visit, Shapiro met with company officials, local leaders, and first responders, commending firefighters for their swift response. “Thank God for these firefighters and our first responders and our police. They’re the best of us,” he said.
Authorities are still investigating the fire’s cause, though early reports suggest an equipment malfunction may be responsible. SPS Technologies is actively working to resume operations, prioritizing safety and structural assessments.
The Montgomery County facility is a critical part of the region’s manufacturing industry, supplying aerospace and defense sectors. Shapiro emphasized the importance of rebuilding efforts, noting that the state would assist with necessary resources and guidance.
