Canal House Station in Milford, just across the river from Bucks County, is one of the best restaurants in the nation, writes Jenna Intersimone for MyCentralJersey.com.
The understated gem with big flavors found its palace on USA Today’s 2025 Restaurants of the Year list as one of the top 44 places to eat in the country.
“We can’t even believe it,” said co-owner and chef Christopher Hirsheimer. “It’s a tremendous honor and we’re humbled by it.”
The eatery is co-owned by Hirsheimer and chef Melissa Hamilton, who also run the James Beard Award-winning Canal House publishing venture along with their culinary, photography, and design studio. They were James Beard Award semifinalists for Best Chef in the Mid-Atlantic region in 2020 and 2022, respectively.
The restaurant’s interior offers guests a view of the open kitchen, where Hamilton and Hirsheimer can be seen at work.
According to Hamilton, the uniqueness of it all is that the owners are actually cooking and putting their imprints of everything, which emphasizes the at-home feel they want to give customers.
The restaurant offers delicious farm-to-table, prix-fixe, five-course meals that change weekly, depending on what is available at local farms.
