Dog Walkers, Prospect Park Police Have a Job for You

Prospect Park Police are asking dog owners to join a new Dog Walkers Watch program.

Prospect Park Police are turning to a valuable resource to help them fight crime:  Dog walkers.

The police department is starting a Dog Walker Watch program in Prospect Park, asking dog owners to keep their eyes and ears open for any trouble in their neighborhood, writes Dawn Timmeney for Fox 29 News.

The Dog Walker Watch is a program that was actually developed by the National Association of Town Watch.

“I am out three, four times a day, and I see everything,” pet owner Mary DeFeo said.

DeFeo is exactly the type of person Prospect Park Police want.

She’s always out with pups Arlo and Katie Perry and doesn’t miss a thing.

She and other pet walkers are out at all hours and could see something suspicious that would otherwise go unnoticed.

If they can be the community eyes and ears, police will be the hands and feet, said Officer Nick Denton.

“We’ve already had a previous incident where someone is out front letting their dog out and even in those 30 seconds saw something,” he said.

Prospect Park Police would provide in-person training, so dog walkers know what kind of suspicious activity to look for.
