Multiple Shipping Services in the Region Are on a Hiring Blitz
With shipping demand on the rise as the holiday season approaches, several shipping services nationwide, including those in the Philadelphia region, are on a hiring blitz, writes James Powel for the Bucks County Courier Times.
The National Retail Foundation has found that 57 percent of people plan to do their shopping online during the holiday season, and is projecting that consumers will spend an average of $907 per person through the season.
To help cover the increased demand, the U.S. Postal Service has said it is hiring 7,500 workers. The number is lower than the approximately 10,000 seasonal workers hired last year. According to the Postal Service, the reduced need can be credited to a more “stabilized workforce.”
UPS is hiring more than 125,000 employees to handle holiday deliveries. The company is looking for drivers with commercial driver’s licenses along with seasonal delivery drivers and package handlers. Current UPS employees who refer seasonal hires will receive a $250 bonus.
FedEx also has seasonal job listings currently up on its website.
“We continue to hire for operational positions needed in certain locations and encourage anyone interested in a career at FedEx,” said the company.
