Cheesesteaks are essentially a city ordinance. Whether from Angelo’s, Jim’s, or Pat’s King of Steaks, expect long lines on game day that will also move quickly.
Roast pork sandwiches may not get the tourist crowds that cheesesteaks get, but local know its appeal. Those from John’s Roast Pork are the city’s best version, but DiNic’s inside Reading Terminal Market is another standout.
Hoagies complete the holy trinity of beloved Philly sandwiches. You can find excellent versions at Breezy’s, Cosmi’s, and Farina Di Vita, and more inventive versions at places like Middle Child.
Philly is also home to a number of BYOBs and a strong Italian food scene.
