A new playground at the Roosevelt Community Center in Middletown Township has been named after Mark Dombroski, a Middletown resident and St. Joseph’s University freshman who died due to injuries from an accidental fall in Bermuda.

The Mark Dombroski Memorial Playground was officially opened following a ribbon cutting Nov. 21, writes Pete Bannon for the Daily Times.

“It’s the perfect fit of who he was, the life he led, we love that it’s an accessible playground, children of all abilities can play and it would make him very happy,” said his mother, Lisa Dombroski. “This is a very happy day indeed.”

The new playground complements extensive stormwater work and other improvements at the site.

Dombroski grew up in Middletown and attended Nativity BVM Catholic Elementary School, then Archmere Academy, before starting at St. Joseph’s.

He passed away in 2018 while in Bermuda for an international ‘rugby tournament.

Friends and family describe Mark as friendly and outgoing, with a “lit from within” personality who was always helping others.

His family used GoFundMe after he died to create the Mark Dombroski Foundation, which provides funding to organizations that support youth education, athletics, safety, and well-being.
