Lucatelli’s Pizzeria reopened last week at Mercer Square Shopping Center in Doylestown, following three weeks of expansion and renovation work, writes Jeff Werner for the Patch.
“We are open,” posted the eatery on Friday. “We’re officially back and ready to serve up all your favorites. Stop in and see the new Lucatelli’s.”
The renovation and expansion project added 1,200 square feet to the pizzeria as it expanded into a neighboring storefront, previously occupied by Weight Watchers. The renovation included the addition of a prep kitchen and addition of a new 32-pie oven in the kitchen. The dining room was enlarged to include 60 seats.
Owner Dave Schiano noted that a visit by noted pizza enthusiast Dave Portnoy – who scored the pizzeria with a high 7.8 – highlighted the need for more space.
“We were doing really well and steadily growing,” said Schiano. “Once Portnoy came in, he really put us on the map. It made me realize that we needed to expand. It’s been rough (working in the tight quarters) but I’m so grateful for my employees who fought through it. With this expansion, we’re building the right operation for the demand.”
