Folcroft Neighbors Help Families Who Lost Everything in Rowhouse Fire

The community of Folcroft is stepping up to help multiple families who have been displaced by a row home fire.

A Folcroft neighbor smelled smoke and banged on doors to help everyone get out safely.

At least 125 firefighters were at the scene after neighbors reported hearing at least four propane tanks explode, followed by huge flames, writes Justin Udo and the staff at KYW Newsradio.

“We had a really lovely neighbor who made everybody aware that the fire was happening. She has two little babies so it’s heart breaking,” said Veronica Haas, who lives just a few doors down from where the fire hit.

More than a dozen people are homeless because of the three-alarm fire Sunday afternoon on Taylor Drive.

Up to 10 homes were affected, with seven totally destroyed. Now neighbors are coming together to help the displaced families.

“To see how the neighbors came through, and how everybody was comforting everybody — you really had a sense of community, and you thought, ‘I love Folcroft,’” said Folcroft Mayor Frannie DiCicco, who was at the scene.

Folcroft Borough is collecting donations for the families, which can be dropped off at Old Borough Hall at 1555 Elwood Ave. Details can be found on the Folcroft Borough Facebook page.
