Officials cut the ribbon to celebrate upgrades to the Philadelphia International Airport regional rail platform.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony Nov. 15 celebrated a $1.5 million renovation to the airport train platforms, writes Mike DeNardo for KYW Newsradio.

The renovations to the SEPTA regional rail platform were completed over two years.

The makeover included new carpeting, ceilings and HVAC systems, along with new signage, concrete and upgraded LED lighting.

“We installed over 700 lights on these platforms.” Said Api Appulingam, PHL’s chief development officer.

SEPTA General Manager Leslie Richards said the upgraded platforms should be welcomed by more than a million travelers each year.

“Seventy-eight times a day, SEPTA Airport Line trains to and from the airport carry people to the start of their journey or home to loved ones,” she said. “These were much-needed improvements for SEPTA and our customers.”

The airport paid for the renovations using $1.5 million in state grants.

Richards said the improved stations will play a larger role in providing a first impression for visitors arriving for big events in 2026, like the nation’s semiquincentennial.
