Retired Philadelphia Eagles player Jason Kelce of Haverford was caught off guard Oct. 13 while greeting fans at a tailgate outside Lincoln Financial Field when a fan decided to conduct a tailgate wedding proposal in front of him.
Now some fans want Kelce to officiate their wedding, writes Marinna Watts for People Magazine.
Kelce, 35, was posing with a fan before Sunday’s game against the Cleveland Browns. The fan motioned to her boyfriend to join in the photo op. That’s when the boyfriend got down on one knee and proposed to his girlfriend.
Kelce seemed shocked as the crowd cheered, shouting, “Oh, my God!,” while stepping back to give the couple some space.
The proposal was followed by an Eagles chant from the gathered fans.
The event was shared and the couple congratulated on the New Heights podcast.
Fans on X appreciated Kelce’s reaction.
“Him getting emotional is my favorite. Such a good dude,” wrote one user.
One fan even suggested the retired Eagles center should serve as the wedding officiant for the newly engaged couple.
“If someone proposed directly in front of you like that, you must officiate the wedding,” they said. “Sorry [Jason], those are the rules.”
