Moops: Latest Venture from Lower Merion Grad and Shark Tank Alum
Lower Merion High School graduate Jess Edelstein is once again making waves in the entrepreneurial world with Moops, reports Lisa Dukart for the Philadelphia Business Journal.
Nearly a decade after her first startup, PiperWai, found success on “Shark Tank,” Edelstein launched her latest venture, Moops. This South Jersey-based company focuses on providing relief for those with lactose intolerance, a condition Edelstein herself has dealt with since middle school.
Moops offers a lactase enzyme syrup that people can take alone or add to dairy products. It comes in flavors like sweet vanilla, salted caramel, and strawberry milkshake, as well as an unflavored option. The syrup helps lactose-intolerant individuals digest milk sugar, making it easier for them to enjoy dairy without discomfort.
Edelstein was inspired to create Moops after she and her husband—both lactose intolerant—grew tired of carrying and taking lactase pills. She sought a more enjoyable experience. She worked with food scientists to develop a product that people could take with any meal.
Currently, Moops is sold directly through its website, with plans for future expansion into e-commerce and brick-and-mortar stores. Edelstein envisions the product being available in cafes, pizzerias, and ice cream shops nationwide.
Drawing from her experience with PiperWai’s rapid success, Edelstein plans to scale Moops more slowly. Her goal is to make the brand a household name, offering an enjoyable and effective solution for people with lactose intolerance.
