Another Option Considered for New Rose Tree Elementary School

Rose Tree Media School District has come up with an alternate location for a new elementary school.

A proposal by Rose Tree Media School District to build a new elementary school along Route 352 has apparently been temporarily scrapped in favor of another option, writes Pete Bannan for the Daily Times.

Edgmont Township and the school district are entangled in legal proceedings over the first location at 1501 Middletown Road so Rose Tree Media School District is now looking at a property next to Penncrest High School.

Enrollment projections show the district will need another school, with most of the growth coming from Edgmont and Middletown Townships.

Edgemont officials voted down zoning changes for a proposed 53,000-plus-square-foot school on 37 acres at the Middletown Road site.

“While the legal process has not yet led to an amicable settlement, I am grateful to the elected officials and the professional staff in Edgmont Township who have been gracious with their time and attention in our discussions and meetings regarding the need for a new school,” said Rose Tree Superintendent Dr. Joe Meoche.

The new site sits between Penncrest High School fields and Rose Tree Road.

A new school offers an opportunity to provide a full-day kindergarten and possibly build an early childhood center, Meloche said.
