Funeral services for Johnny and Matthew Gaudreau will take place Monday, Noon, at St Mary Magdalen Catholic Church in Media, reports Fox 29.
The two beloved ice hockey brothers were killed by a suspected drunk driver while riding bikes in Salem County, New Jersey. A driver has been charged in connection with the accident.
Though the Gaudreau brothers were raised in New Jersey, they both played in their youth with the Little Flyers, a junior ice hockey team that met at the IceWorks in Aston.
The Media church was chosen for the funeral at the family’s request because of their many connections to Delaware County.
The deaths of the Gaudreau brothers have shaken the hockey community.
Johnny, 31, known as “Johnny hockey,” played with the Columbus, Ohio-based Blue Jackets. Matthew, 29, also had professional hockey experience and coached the West Chester Wolves.
“I’m devastated to hear about the passing of Matty and Johnny, two guys I have watched grow up on the ice since they were born, playing for the Little Flyers and then moving on to Juniors, Boston College and then the Pros,” IceWorks Skating Complex general manager Stephane said in a statement.
