In 1964, when was in his early 20s, Frank Englund opened Englund’s Apparel for Men in Malvern. Although he initially had doubts about the location, Englund trusted his instincts, and it paid off.

Decades later, the store has become a cornerstone of Chester County, serving thousands of customers over the years.

Englund’s journey into the clothing business began unexpectedly while he was studying education at what is now West Chester University. To make ends meet, he worked part-time at Deever’s Men’s Wear in Paoli. The store’s owner saw potential in him and offered him a full-time position, matching what he’d earn as a teacher.

Englund’s Apparel has thrived for over five decades, known for its personalized service, expert tailoring, and a wide selection of both custom and ready-to-wear clothing from top manufacturers. Unlike many competitors, the store has endured, largely due to its focus on timeless classics blended with contemporary fashion.

“Because we rely on the classics, intertwined with new fashions, we thrive in every economy, through every trend,” Englund said. “Oftentimes, a customer is a customer for life. They’re like family, and after a while, their sons and grandsons start coming into the store.”

The store’s success lies in more than just fashion; it’s about the customer experience. Englund takes pride in ensuring that every customer leaves with not only a sharp new look but also a sense of confidence.

As for the future, Englund has no plans to retire. Instead, he’s focused on continuing to grow his business, which has been a mainstay for 60 years.

“My goal has always been to offer better clothing, a better tailor, better employees, better everything,” he said.
