Seemingly unexpected, De La Terre BYOB, a popular French restaurant in Downingtown, closed its doors for good over the summer.

In a Facebook statement by the owners Chef Andrew Hufnagel and Kassie Fetzer, De La Terre had its last day on July 20 after only being open since December 2022.

The pair wrote, “We want to thank everyone who has shown us support over the last year and a half. It was our greatest pleasure to get know and serve all of you.”

In the comments of the post, an influx of De La Terre lovers and customers expressed their sadness at the news and sent their compliments for being able to enjoy the delicious dishes once cooked there. Their Facebook did not express a reason for the restaurant’s closing, and there are no new posts on their Instagram. Additionally, their website has also shut down.

Throughout its short run, the restaurant and its owners make quite the impact far and wide, hitting the stomachs of those further than just Downingtown and Chester County. It was known for its mouthwatering platters, upscale flair, and local ingredients.

It even earned the top spot on Main Line Today for being one of the best new restaurants in Philadelphia’s western suburbs. Visit Philadelphia also named it one of the best new restaurants to try out.

Who knows — maybe the pair will explore another restaurant venture either separately or together in the future. Nonetheless, De La Terre will be missed.
