Delaware County saw gains in construction, healthcare and education jobs, but lost ground elsewhere, according to the New York Times.

While the U.S. economy has added 19 million jobs in the past four years, not all parts of the country have recovered from the pandemic at the same rate, writes Ben Casselman and Ella Koeze for The New York Times.

In some parts of the country, jobs came back quickly with the availability of vaccines. Other parts, including Delaware County, have had a slower rebound, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

About 43 percent of counties have not regained the jobs lost in the pandemic.

Delaware County had 7,978 fewer jobs in 2023 than 2019, a decrease of 3.5 percent.

Delaware County saw a nine percent loss in manufacturing sector jobs between 2019 and 2023.

There was a 2.7 percent loss in trade, transportation and utility jobs; a 16 percent loss in information jobs, a 22 percent loss in finance jobs, an 8 percent loss in business service jobs, a 1.7 percent loss in leisure and hospitality jobs, and a 1.4 percent drop in all other service jobs.

Delaware County did see a 6 percent increase in construction jobs between 2019 and 2023, and it saw a 2.9 percent increase in education and health sector jobs.
