The Delaware County Chamber of Commerce and Artillery Brewing Company present the Veterans Roll Call, a monthly gathering designed to honor and support veterans, military personnel, and the businesses that champion them.

This unique initiative offers a relaxed and inclusive environment for veterans to connect, share stories, and build lasting relationships.

Whether you’ve served, support a veteran-owned business, or simply appreciate the sacrifices of our armed forces, you’re invited to join the Roll Call on the second Wednesday of each month at 5:30 PM at Artillery Brewing Company (4100 West Chester Pike in Drexel Hill).

Inspired by a veteran’s vision of a gathering place outside of traditional veterans’ organizations, the Veterans Roll Call has become a cornerstone for camaraderie and support within the community. Each event features an opportunity to share updates, stories, and camaraderie, fostering a sense of belonging among attendees.

“We were first approached in the summer of ’21 with an idea formed by Brendan Murphy, a retired Navy Captain and representative of veterans groups in Chester County.

His idea was to set up a casual event to bring younger vets into a lively social environment to meet up with prior generations of veterans in a setting different to the American Legion and VFW posts.” said Michael Loveless, Co-founder of The Artillery Brewing Company.

“It was a great idea and The Artillery Brewing Company was honored that they chose us to be the home for this kind of offering for the veteran community.”

Veterans Roll Call nights are designed to be pressure-free and engaging.  There are no speeches or forced interactions, just the opportunity to share stories, enjoy a meal, and raise a glass in camaraderie.

Loveless explained when they first launched the event in Chester County, the group brought up the Naval ship bell which they mounted to a wall in the taproom. The bell was rung every Roll Call night when it was time to raise a toast in honor of all actively deployed personnel and those who have lost their lives in service to the nation and this is how the name of the event was born.

Building a Supportive Network

While participation in Roll Call is entirely up to the individual, the hope is that these gatherings will foster a sense of community and support among local veterans, military personel, and their allies within the business community.

As Loveless observed with the Chester County program, “People naturally build relationships and seek to support one another in various ways – through friendship, mentorship, or even just networking. This environment creates the potential for those connections to happen.”
