2 Delaware County Colleges Included in Six Figure Tuition Update

Swarthmore College was named the third best liberal arts college in America.

Back in 2018 blogger Bryan Alexander posed the question of which would be the first American college or university to charge six-figure tuitions to attend.

He’s provided updates every year since.

“How do things stand now?” he asked in his latest May 13 blog post at bryanalexander.org.

Alexander has released his list from most expensive to least, and the overall list includes a few schools from Delaware County.

He used the latest undergraduate tuition figures from campus websites for the upcoming 2024-2025 academic year.

About 24 American colleges and universities are charging more than $90,000 a year right now, with the University of Southern California the most expensive at $95,225.

While no Delaware County schools appear in the $90,000 or above range, Haverford College, at $89,568 annually, did make it into the upper 80s.

So did Swarthmore College, which charges an annual undergraduate tuition of $85,802

Alexander predicts that with USC currently out front, its tuition will run close to $100,000 by 2025-26, at $99,986 “or just about as close to the 100K mark as one can get.”

Breaching the $100,000 might be a symbolic step too far, he suggests, and colleges won’t want to look greedy or too expensive.
