Renovations totaling $150 million continue at the Cobbs Creek Golf Campus in West Philadelphia and Upper Darby, and now there’s a general manager, Christopher Parker, to oversee campus operations.
Parker, a 20-year golf industry veteran, will oversee the 350-acre complex, writes John George for Philadelphia Business Journal.
Parker had been general manager at the Rock Spring Golf Club in West Orange, New Jersey, since 2019.
He’s the first general manager at Cobbs Creek since the public golf course closed in 2020. Parker expects to be at the campus every day starting in September.
The scope of the renovation project for Cobbs Creek drew the 41-year-old South Carolina native to the job, as well as the history of the course.
It was one of the first in the Philadelphia area to welcome golfers of all races and genders, and was home to the United Golfers Association, which organized tournaments for Black golfers as far back as the 1920s.
“Being an African-American, getting the opportunity to be involved in something that [focuses on] diversity got me really excited,” Parker said.
He expects the campus to impact the community and its youth for years to come.
