The Hallie Christine Jackson Butterfly Sanctuary in Brookhaven received some tender loving care recently when Eagle Scouts Bennett and Andrew McManus of Rose Valley Scout Troop 272 enhanced the beauty of the sanctuary for visitors, writes Peg DeGrassa for the Daily Times.

The projects were part of a requirement to attain the rank of Eagle Scout.

Bennett McManus, a student at Strath Haven High School, constructed two planter boxes for the sanctuary’s entrance and organized Scouts and community members to mulch the trails..

Andrew McManus, a student at AIM Academy designed, constructed, and installed 24 vibrant butterfly houses. He also did a mid-season weeding of the sanctuary with a team of Scouts.

The Scouts are the sons of Brian and Annmarie McManus of Wallingford.

The Hallie Christine Jackson Butterfly Sanctuary is a refuge for reintroducing the Monarch butterfly and other species to Delaware County.  It is a platform raise awareness about mental health concerns in the community.

The two Eagle Scouts were honored by State Rep. Leanne Krueger and by Brookhaven Borough Council, which sponsored the project, for their service to the community.
