Proposed Newtown Square Warehouse Raises Resident Concern

Boiron is seeking approval for a 77,000 square-foot warehouse off Wes Chester Pike in Newtown Square.

Six acres of prairie land in Newtown Square off West Chester Pike next to the Delaware County Veterans Memorial could become a 77,000 square-foot logistics warehouse, writes Chris O’Connell for Fox 29.

That didn’t sit well with several neighbors Thursday night.

“We are allowing a logistics center in an environment we thought was going to be people friendly?” asked one Newtown Square resident.

Boiron, a Newtown-Square-based homeopathic pharmaceutical company, wants Newtown Township Planning Commission approval to build the facility on Alice Grim Boulevard.

It would be open from 7 AM to 9 PM Monday through Friday and use 29 employees, according to Boiron attorney Don Petrosa.

Up to 20 tractor trailers would come to and from the plant each week, along with 15 to 20 box delivery trucks.

Though Boiron has been described by residents as a “good neighbor for 30 years,” there were concerns about traffic impact, and potential stormwater problems.

“You are asking for conditions that we just can’t accept,” one resident told the Boiron representatives.

Boiron, which hoped to start warehouse construction in January, will return to the planning commission next month to address resident concerns.

The proposed warehouse would still need approval by the Newtown Township Board of Supervisors.
