Delaware County’s Barbara Trucksess Is a Baseball Card Afficionado
Barbara Trucksess has taken her love of the Phillies and the love for her son and created a massive collection of baseball cards, writes Dave Uram for KYW Newsradio.
The 75-year-old Delaware County woman has been a Phillies fan for 60 years.
“She has been a diehard Phillies fan for as long as I can remember,” said her son Chuck Trucksess.
It was for Chuck that the mother of two started collecting baseball cards in 1990. She wanted the collection to balance out the porcelain dolls she had been collecting for her daughter.
Today, she has between a half-million and a million baseball cards.
“The shelving system that I have is wider than if I stretch my arms out, and taller than I am,” she said.
Her favorite Phillies player card is Hall of Fame ace Steve Carlton.
Her favorite overall cards are Hall of Famer Frank Thomas and actor Tom Selleck.
Eventually the collection will pass to Chuck.
“I keep telling him,” Barabara said: “When I die, you can have these — but until then, they’re mine.”
He’s OK with that.
“I can’t wait to take it over, but I’m also dreading the day I have to take it over,” he said.
