Private First Class Beers of the U.S. Marine Corp. was positioned in Vietnam’s Quang Tri Province. On May 23, 1968, the twenty-year-old had only 109 days remaining until he returned home to Bucks County.

But on that fateful day, Beers was heavily wounded. Despite his comrades working feverishly to move him to the Navy hospital ship USS Sanctuary, he did not make it.

The County of Bucks dedicated Bridge #220 over Martins Creek along Mill Creek Road in Falls Township to the fallen soldier as part of its Vietnam Veterans Memorial Bridge Program.

Commissioner Chair Diane Ellis-Marseglia was present at the June 25 dedication, where she noted that the recognition of those fallen soldiers was long overdue.

“I’ve said it before but it bears repeating, it has taken us a very, very long time to say thank you and a very long time to try and make it right,” she said.
