On Saturday morning, July 13, longtime WIP sports radio host Glen Macnow will do his final show as he retires from radio, writes Alicia Roberts for CBS News Philadelphia.
His 4-year-old grandson and his 93-yeare-old father will both be there for the final show.
“Boy, I hope I don’t make a fool of myself and blubber on the air,” said the Havertown native.
The former Philadelphia Inquirer writer who became a popular radio fixture for sports fans has been on the air for 31 years.
“I have talked into these microphones for more than 25,000 hours and that should be enough for anybody,” Macnow said.
He debuted in 1993 and went on to interview some of the greatest Philly players.
“Reggie White was just a great human being and a real gentleman,”
He thinks he’ll miss his relationship with the listeners the most.
“Radio is a very personal medium, in that even if they don’t know you, by allowing you to be in their house, in their car, you become their friend,” Macnow said.
In retirement, Macnow plans to travel, write and do some acting, as well as spend more time with his family.
