Damian Ponzio of Garnet Valley started collected ballcaps as a kid, and he never stopped.

Damian Ponzio of Garnet Valley has a thing about hats—specifically, ballcaps.

While others collect baseball cards, Ponzio collects ballcaps.

The 54-year-old has 158 of them and he’s been collecting them since he was a boy, writes Dave Uram for KYW Newsradio.

And while others pinpoint highlights in their lives with scrapbooks, Ponzio uses baseball hats.

Chronologically, his collection dates back to 1991 but he developed a system between 1996 and 2018 of writing what he was doing while wearing each hat, then tucked the note inside the cap.

“In that span, I met my wife [Jill], got married, had two kids [Josh and Carli],” said Ponzio. “So all of those are recorded in the hats, which is kinda cool.”

For his wedding, Ponzio wore his favorite—a white hat with a maroon throwback Phillies “P” and bill.

Ponzio’s also been known to check in on Phillies games whenever possible, earning him the reputation as “The Phillies Guy.”

His favorite moments? Watching a game with his wife and kids.

“We’ll sit there and watch a game … and we’ll just talk. And I don’t know how rare that is anymore, but that’s the stuff I cherish.”
